Uzbekistan: Opportunities and investments for new private medical institutions

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “About measures on further development of the private sector of health care” from this year, the list of medical services, which can be rendered by the private health resorts, has been expanded from 50 to 126. As a result, clinics are being set up in Uzbekistan with foreign partners. In order to relief the state medical institutions, eventualities are provided to transfer a wide range of procedures, such as hemodialysis, the collection and decoding of laboratory analysis, and sterilization to the private medical companies. Besides, it is planned to hand over the services of the dining room and laundry to the private sector. Based on the advanced foreign experience, a system of step-by-step accreditation of all medical institutions will be developed and implemented, the practice of licensing medical activities of legal entities will be abolished.

Today in Khorezm region, physicians are actively joining to medicine with an entrepreneurial spirit. 160 private medical institutions work enjoying these privileges. This year, 20 new private institutions began their work. 4 institutions expanded their activities.

According to the head specialist of the department for licensing and quality control of medical services rendered by the non-state institutions of the Khorezm regional health care management Ergash Ruzimov, for Khorezm region, 1 million US dollars was allocated by the fund for supporting private medical institutions under the commercial bank “Asaka”. 960 thousand US dollars were allocated to 16 private institutions to purchase new medical equipment from abroad. 40 thousand US dollars is intended to use for consultations of foreign experts.

This year the private enterprise “Dildora Pharm” invited from the United States a well-known specialist-gynecologist Burgos Mora, who conducted master classes and medical examination of patients. Dr. Atilly Major was invited by the LLC “MED COMPLEX” from Switzerland, who also conducted master classes and high-tech laparoscopic operations. The private enterprise “Shifo nur excimer” invited a specialist ophthalmologist Professor Druzinin Igor Borisovich from the Russian Federation, who conducted operations and master classes.

These facts indicate that the role of the private sector in the healthcare of Uzbekistan is increasing.
